Our Project
I-India Project Australia and Street Child Project in Singapore are working with I-India to build an exciting community project, the Jhag Children's Village. Located about 45 minutes drive south-west of Jaipur off the Jaipur Ajmer Highway, the 5 acre campus currently consists of two shelter homes and Prem Pathshala, a school for 200 children up to 5th Standard. A medical clinic that will provide basic health care support and referral services for the local community is under construction. Through the corporate support of Australian training company Franklyn Scholar, vocational training will one day be provided to the women and youth of the local rural villages.
The “Jhag Children’s Village” has become an important hub of the local community. The local villagers were the driving force behind I-India's acquisition of the 5 acres from the Rajasthan Government when they campaigned strongly for essential services that were almost completely lacking in their local area. They are employed in the construction and maintenance as well as the operations of the school and shelter homes which stimulates the local economy. It is hoped that by providing opportunities in their village, the mass migration to the cities can be stemmed. Unfortunately when they move to the cities in search of work they invariably join the millions of desperately poor people who struggle to survive, living from day to day, hand to mouth, suffering exploitation and exposure to countless dangerous situations.
The Jhag Children's Village currently includes:
- Prem Pathshala, a school for 200 children
- Two shelter homes that care for 100 former street children
- A medical clinic
When completed, it will also include:
- Two Franklyn Scholar vocational training centres
- A dining room/school hall/community centre
- Volunteer accommodation
- A sports field
- A produce garden
