On the 23rd February, I-India Project Australia’s committee member Ron Yeo held a Chinese New Year banquet at the Golden Century Seafood Restaurant, Moore Park, Sydney.
Almost 100 guests attended, and from all reports, everyone had a fantastic time! We sincerely thank every one of them for their support by coming along on a Wednesday evening to enjoy a delicious ten course meal, live entertainment, silent and live auctions.
We thank you our dear friends Manjit and Kawal Gujral (Manjit’s Total Events Management), Meri and Leanne Took (Staging Rentals & Construction Services), Peter and Rosemary Carlini and Dr Charlie and Mrs Genevieve Teo for buying tables and bringing their friends and families.
Mr Kevin Kam, the owner of Golden Century was very welcoming and generous. We really appreciate the friendly and efficient assistance we received from Ben and all his team. Everything was so made so easy for us.
Paul and Joshua Meader provided the entertainment throughout the night. If you close your eyes to listen to Joshua play his electric guitar, you would never believe that he is merely 13 years of age. He has played since he was seven years old. Six years later he plays with skill and maturity to match his father, Paul. Joshua’s sister Rosie charmed our guests when she joined them onstage to sing.
Caii Michelle Gordon, the “Diva with Attitude” sang two numbers, unaccompanied which showed her incredible vocal mastery. Caii-Michelle has utilised her talents to benefit many causes over the years. (www.caiimichelle.com)
Auctioneer Michael Beaumont rallied support from the audience, calling on them to bid generously. Thank you for donating your time and talents on the evening, Michael. We really appreciate it.
Many businesses contributed towards a very successful auction result.
Thank you to David Thompson from NSW Cricket for donating the autographed cricket bat, which was bought at auction by Sunil and Shikha Lal. Sunil and Shikha have been such generous supporters of I-India since our A Night in Rajasthan event back in 2008. The bat was classically framed by Toohey Nguyen from Strathfield Picture Framing. Angus Kingsmill, the Managing Director of Mambo Graphics donated a Mambo surfboard which was successfully won by Dr Charlie and Genevieve Teo. Thank you Angus! (www.mambo.com.au)
Dr Teo also bought a special chef-catered private dinner party donated by talented Malaysian chef Rakesh Bassi. From personal experience, we know that Charlie and Genevieve are in for a very special evening, with Rakesh, his brother Vinod and sister Sarita taking care of all the work so that they can relax and enjoy their guests in the privacy of their own home.
We send our special thanks to our patron Shane Watson for his autographed cricket jersey, which was also framed by Toohey Nguyen from Strathfield Picture Framing. Toohey framed the jersey completely free of charge. This special piece of sporting memorabilia was bought at auction by Phillip and Aileen Beale who are renowned for the generosity they show towards many good causes.
Van Heusen, a division of Gazal Corporation donated a fabulous pack of Van Heusen Tailored products worth over $1,300. Tony Bryan was the very happy winning bidder of this valuable ensemble.
The Dunphy family donated a week’s holiday at their lovely beach house at Narrawallee, on the south coast. (www.ljhooker.com.au/9TFB5)
Thirty silent auction items were eagerly snapped up by the winning bidders at the end of the evening. There are too many to mention, but I would like to make special mention the following people who immediately offered or agreed to donate.
Anna Lofts from Linen & Moore regularly donates large cash donations as well as providing superb quality items from her stunning range of linen for our auctions. Anna sent a beautiful silk and linen throw with matching cushions and a block-printed table cloth and matching napkins that was hand printed using organic dyes in the traditional Indian method. Anna will be visiting the Jhag Children’s Village soon to see how her on-going support has materialised into very real improvements in the lives of children who were rescued from the streets by I-India.
