I-India Project Australia and I-India Singapore are assisting our partner I-India in the construction of a facility that will provide a comprehensive program to fulfil long-term needs for education, vocational training and shelter for destitute children.  It is planned that through the provision of vocational training and sales of craft work, the facility will ultimately become self sufficient.

I-India envisages that the “Jhag Children’s Village” will become the hub of the local community, as the land is directly adjacent to a newly constructed temple and it will provide community facilities and employment that are desperately needed.

Local people will be employed to construct the facility, developing experience and expertise in the field of construction, under the instruction of qualified builders. The facility will be designed for self-sufficiency so that it collects and stores its own water, produces much of its own electricity and deals with its own sanitary waste.

The Village will include:

  • A school for 200 children
  • A vocational training centre for young adults
  • 2 shelter homes to care for orphaned or homeless children
  • Sports field
  • Produce garden
  • Transport vehicle

The centre will include facilities that will be accessed by the local community who do not have access to any educational resources or facilities.

  • School room
  • Library
  • Toy Library – providing children born into underprivileged families with the opportunity to play and learn with educational toys
  • Audio Visual Library - will provide teenagers with a connection with the world’s youth culture
  • Sporting Ground / Cricket Pitch
  • Playground Equipment

The centre will become a safe place for vulnerable children, a place of learning for those who cannot afford to attend the government school and a launching pad for children who wish to develop their education to a standard and then continue it through the government schooling system.  It will be a place for children to learn new skills in the manufacture of jewellery and other artistic handicrafts.  It is anticipated that the skills they learn will make them valuable to future employers.  10% of the children will be awarded placements in commercial jewellery/handicraft organisations.

Suitably qualified staff from the local area will be employed to care for the children and the facilities, which will stimulate the local economy.  I-India has a successful track record in recruiting caring and compassionate staff that can provide cheerful assistance when and where it is required.
